Dominic's
hand fell on my shoulder before I had the door even half way open. I
turned just enough so that I could see him out of the corner of my
eye. “I'm doing my best, but I can't always protect you if you're
not with me.”
“Protect?”
his choice of words caught me off guard. “We're both helping Alba,
remember? I'm not exactly sure what you're implying.”
His
dark eyes glistened as he blinked back his annoyance. The look
in his dark eyes wasn't far from the worried one I had just seen in
Gage's. “I don't understand it either,” was all he said before
releasing my shoulder. His jaw
seemed to tighten as he eyed me, just a few feet of emtpy air between
us. I stood quietly for a moment, contemplating a reaction.
Dominic seemed to be fighting back
some reactions of his own. I noticed him part his mouth to speak,
then quickly shut it a couple times as if an internal war was going
on in his head and he was really struggling with picking a side. I
could feel waves of pure frustration blaring off of him.
